16 Miscellaneous Baby Safety Tips
- Always keep the baby neat and clean
- Keep their fingernails properly trimmed and clean
- Wet diapers should be removed in a timely fashion and the area cleaned with soap
- Keep the genitals as clean and dry as reasonable because fungal infection is common in that area
- Scalp fungal infections, dermatitis, etc can be prevented by proper cleaning
- Do not dress with tight clothing as it can cause irritation
- The baby's room should have sufficient light and ventilation and be free from dust and insects
- A separate water proof bed is preferabe for babies, although it can be placed near mother's bed
- While carrying the baby, support the head with your hand, as the neck muscles are weak and sudden falls of the head can be dangerous
- Mother's milk is the best nutrition for the baby, and it also gives emotional attachment. Proper cleaning of the nipple is also necessary
- During mosquito season, nets should be used regularly as many diseases are transmitted by mosquitos
- A calm atmosphere should be maintained for a good sleep
- A first aid box should be kept in the baby's room, which should contain sterile cotton, dressing materials, antiseptic lotion, ointment, and forceps. Keep a phone book close by with the phone numbers of doctors, ambulance, police etc (see separate First Aid Kit article)
- Child's medicines should be kept in separate area inaccessible to the children
- Use proper car seats (see separate artciles about car seats
here and
here)
- When you are going out with the baby keep an identity card with your phone number and address inside his small pocket
